Working Holidays

If your idea of heaven is just being around horses, or you want to learn more about their general day to day care this could be the ideal holiday for you! It's a chance to have a real hands on experience, spending all day enjoying the company of horses.

We are a very friendly small yard and after a short induction, you will be treated very much as part of the team. All abilities are welcome - you do not even need to be able to ride as we will help you to gain basic riding skills (up to canter at least) during your stay!

See out other things to do page for more ideas. An average day will start with breakfast for humans and horses, followed by the inevitable mucking out. Once this is done the more pleasant tasks follow - catching, grooming, tacking up, helping out on rides and riding out!

At some point around the middle of the day, we will stop for lunch, either at the yard or on the trail. Depending on weather we may ride for one to four hours a day, which may be split into two sessions. When we finish riding, the horses are untacked, checked and groomed, then after a short break it's time for feeding and bedding down for the night, before we finish for the day and head inside for our evening meal.

Other tasks might involve bathing the horses, tack cleaning, helping with young-stock etc We try not to work you too hard and give you as much time as possible to spend time riding and enjoying the horses. Our philosophy is get the mucky jobs done then have some fun!

During our quieter times of year, from October to early May, we are able to offer very reasonably priced working holidays. Accommodation at this time of year can be in our home, Keepers Cottage, where you will be our guest, and we will provide all meals. We have a twin or double room available (which can be used for single occupancy.) The rooms have their own television and tea and coffee making facilities and use of a shared bathroom with shower. We can provide internet and email access by arrangement.

From May to October when we are busy, (or at any other time of year should you prefer) accommodation will be in a local Bed & Breakfast establishment, with lunch provided by us, leaving you to make your own arrangements for evening meals.

Should you wish to arrange your own accommodation, (there are local campsites and self catering lodges) we can offer working holidays at a very reduced rate. We will still provide lunch for you whilst you are working here.

Calling all Parents

Do you have a horse-mad child, nagging you day and night, begging for a pony of their own? Not very 'horsey' yourself and don't know what is involved? Why not take them on one of our working holidays? We can offer parent and child holidays, where you can both gain more experience in horsecare. Please call for details.....

Please Note!

Although on the booking form week for a £200 deposit, this is unneccesary for the working holidays, so please just disregard! We just ask for a £50 deposit on the working holidays and the balance can be paid on arrival.
