Castles and Whisky Trail....

This is a stunningly beautiful ride taking in the ancient hill passes of the Angus Glens and then riding through the beautiful Cairngorm mountains in the national park.

We will start our ride beside two ancient 'castles' - the twin hill forts of the Brown and White Caterthuns, not far from Brechin, then head through the hills on old 'mounth' roads, ministers paths and drove roads, many ridden by Queen Victoria on her travels through this area. We'll ride beside the river Dee to Balmoral Estate, with a day off to visit Balmoral Castle, favourite holiday home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - in fact, we have to do this ride in July, because during August and September her Maj is in residence, so we can't get access to the castle or some of the trails. We'll also visit Lochnagar Distillery for a wee dram, and also Braemar Castle and Mar Lodge, before heading again off into the hills. We'll ride through wild glens to Corgarff castle, then on to Tomintoul, the highest village in the UK. From here we'll head again through the hills and beautiful Caledonian Pine forests to Aviemore, where we'll finish the ride.

Pictures of this ride will be posted shortly - but take it from us, the scenery is stunning, with some of the highest mountains in Scotland all around us - that's why it's the favourite haunt of the Royal family!
