The Bonnie Ride
This ride is just that - a really bonnie ride! It is the Bonnie Prince Charlie Ride, without the Prince Charlie bit - which makes it the Bonnie Ride! It follows exactly the same route as the Bonnie Prince charlie ride - you just don't do the sightseeing bit at the start and finish!
A lovely ride through some fantastic scenery, with a bit of everything - riding through the heather, faster work on forest tracks, climbing high passes, and even a beautiful sandy beach at the end of a loch!
Great views of Ben Nevis, riding beside Thomas Telfords masterpiece, the Caledonian Canal and fab views of Loch Ness (can't guarantee the monster though!)
We collect our guests in Fort William at about 9am, transporting you to the start of the ride at Fassfern, We ride along an old pack pony path, winding through Glen Loy, once used for transporting charcoal from Loch Eil side. We ride beside the Caledonian Canal, to Gairlochy, where we finish for the night. We spend the night in Spean Bridge.
Leaving Gairlochy, we ride past Highbridge, on the old miliatary road, taking us to Spean Bridge, to ride on old trails and forestry tracks, taking us to Luiblea, at the entrance to the wild land of Corrour Estate.
We ride today through Ardvirikie Estate, famous nowadays as the setting for the Monarch of the Glen TV series.
Passing stunning Ardvirikie House overlooking Loch Laggan, we ride to the head of the Loch, site of the largest freshwater beach in Britain, then follow another old drovers route to leave the horses for the night at Garva Bridge, on General Wades road. We spend the night at Laggan at the Monadliath Hotel, with it's roofless church in the gardens.
Today we head over the stunning 770m (2526 ft) Corrieyairack Pass. This high, lonely stone track was one of General Wades military roads and was famously taken by the Prince and his men on their march South, when his hopes of victory were still high. The views are stunning! We finish for the night at Fort Augustus at the end of Loch Ness
