The Across Ross Ride

This is a coast to coast ride across Ross-shire, from the wild rugged scenery of the west to the rolling hills of the east. The ride starts at Torridon on the west coast, in the brooding shadow of Liathach and Ben Eighe, some of the highest mountains in the UK. We ride beneath Benn Eighe to join the Coulin Pass, which takes us eastwards. We keep heading west through beautiful Strath Conon, then switch back to head west again, through the forests of Garve, before heading north east, through the wild countryof Strath Vaich, below Ben Wyvis to emerge in the crofting community of Ardgay. This ride has two end points. Riders can either choose to finish their ride at Bonar bridge - the first point at which we reach the East Coast, or continue for an extra day to reach the wide sandy beaches of the Dornoch Firth.

forest ride across ross horse rideThere will be plenty of opportunities for faster riding through the forest sections of this ride and on the wide sandy estate tracks, but due to the nature of the trails, the hill sections are mostly ridden at walk, with short spells of trot - whichever pace is most appropriate - however, our horses and ponies are used to tough terrain and very fit, so even at walk, they cover a lot of ground very quickly. In the hills it's nice to ride at a pace that allows us time to appreciate the stunning scenery!

You need to be a confident rider, comfortable up to canter, or gallop, if you want to do the extra days beach ride.  You also need to be physically fit enough to lead your horse on foot sometimes on steep and very rough ground.  Due to the remote nature of the area we ride through, the accommodation en-route varies, between top quality hotels, B&B's and a bunkhouse depending on what is available in the area we are riding through that day. Wherever we stay, the food is always great!. This is real mountain country and the scenery is stunningly beautiful - the trails are challenging in places, but generally quite easy to ride and the views are unbelievable!

This is a new ride for 2012 and looks like becoming another Coast to Coast favourite!

Price: 1160 GBP

1280 GBP

for 7 days riding and 7 nights accommodation, full board - including beach! This ride finishes in Dornoch and includes a beach ride.

Public transport to Torridon is not very good, so you will need to get to Inverness where we will collect you late afternoon on Sunday 26th August to take you to the start of the ride at Torridon. The exact time of collection depends on when everyone on the ride arrives! The ride finishes either at Bonar Bridge or Dornoch, from where there are good public transport links back to Inverness.
